As cities grow and plans get approved, there is a higher demand than ever for engineers. With a continual rise in skills shortage throughout the engineering industry, this apprentice week, M-EC is keen to highlight apprenticeships within the technical and engineering sector to encourage others to consider a career in this field.
Engineering is essential for developing new ideas, places and spaces and for maintaining areas already built; it provides a challenging but exciting career that is interconnected to other disciplines, offering a diverse range of work, with no two days the same. Working in engineering can be rewarding and beneficial and is known as one of the most reliable ways to kick-start your career.
Based in Leicester and Brighton and operating nationwide, M-EC is a quality-driven firm of technical development consultants, providing engineering consultancy for various industries and sectors. The team is passionate about learning and development for all employees and has been offering apprenticeships across its different engineering and environmental disciplines for the last eleven years.
In 2022, M-EC welcomed their yearly cohort of apprentices, which saw eager and enthusiastic A-Level/college graduates enter positions within the company's Civil Engineering and Geo-Environmental disciplines. The apprenticeship scheme at M-EC is tailored to each candidate, ensuring the chosen qualification is relevant to the next stage of development. It enhances the skills and knowledge of the individual whilst also benefitting individual career aspirations.
Tom Bradshaw, who joined M-EC’s 2022 cohort of apprentices, joined with a passion for site work after completing his A-Levels. Tom is undertaking a remote learning vocational course during his employment at M-EC to develop his knowledge of construction, design and the built environment.
Tom Bradshaw, Geo-technical Civil Engineer Apprentice, says: So far, I have really enjoyed my time in the apprenticeship scheme since joining M-EC, it’s been a steep learning curve, but I have been helped through by my colleagues. I am developing multiple skill sets from all the M-EC staff and gaining an excellent qualification whilst learning on the job from qualified professionals.
2023 will be no different at M-EC, as the team is currently considering this year’s apprentice requirements.
