Project: Frisby Primary School Extension
Discipline: Geo-Environmental
About the project:
Leicestershire County Council commissioned M-EC to undertake a Phase I Desk Study and Soil Infiltration Rate Testing for a proposed extension to Frisby Primary School. The proposed extension is to include a new classroom, quiet room, hall extension and sunny room to benefit the children of the school.
Following the Phase I Desk Study, identified potential contamination sources associated with Made Ground on-site in addition to the potential for migration of ground gases from off-site sources. Preliminary recommendations were presented relating to the likely design requirements for foundations, floor slabs and retaining walls for the proposed extension development.
Preliminary research suggested that soakaways would unlikely provide a drainage option for the proposed development. This was further confirmed by completing soil infiltration rate testing in general accordance with BRE 365.
Testing was completed in an area adjacent to the main playground and at the weekend to limit the impact on school activities. Particular care was taken in reinstating the working area before the resumption of the school week on the following Monday.
