We’re pleased to share the good news that our project with Landmark Planning and Nottingham College to create a new exam centre at Nottingham College has been approved.
This successful application permits the change of use of 126 Canal Street, Nottingham from an office to the provision of education. Eight staff will be based full-time at the new centre, which will also serve as the main location for exams for all facilities across Greater Nottingham.
To support the application, we were commissioned to prepare a Flood Management Plan as the site was situated within Flood Zone 3.
Our assistant flood risk engineer, Zoe Jordan explains: “Mitigation for sites within Flood Zone 3 typically requires raising finished floor levels or providing resilience measures above the maximum flood level. However, in this case, no physical changes were to be made to the building, so our management plan focused on measures to protect staff and students in the event of a storm.
“We provided a detailed, four-stage Flood Warning & Evacuation Plan, which recommends safe routes through the building, clearly identifies assembly points in case of an evacuation and provides recommended actions for post-storm recovery.
“Planning consent has been issued without any pre-commencement conditions so the new exam centre can become operational very soon,” adds Zoe.
