MEC contributes to Housebuilder magazine on complex connections and the Future Homes Standard
Our Utilities Team feature in the latest edition of Housebuilder magazine, contributing to a discussion on complex connections and the impact of the Future Homes Standard on new residential developments.
In the article, Emma Harris, Utilities Co-ordinator at MEC, explains how early planning is key to avoiding costly redesigns further down the line. By commissioning constraints plans, carrying out accurate capacity assessments, and completing thorough asset searches at the earliest stage, housebuilders can reduce risks and ensure more efficient project delivery.
Emma also points to the increasing demand for multi-utility solutions, with developers looking to simplify delivery and reduce costs by using a single provider for all connections.
Looking ahead, the Future Homes Standard will have a significant impact on utilities provision. With gas being phased out and new homes moving towards all-electric heating, networks will face higher capacity requirements. This will bring greater consideration for substations and the integration of renewable technologies such as solar PV, battery storage, and low-carbon heating systems from the outset of planning and design.
