PHPD puts the questions to MEC's Flood Team who discuss all things SuDS

We’re featured in the latest edition of Professional Housebuilder & Property Developer Magazine, with our Flood Risk Engineer, Thomas sharing his expertise on drainage and water management.

In this SuDS special, Thomas discusses why the Four Pillars of SuDS design; Quantity, Quality, Amenity and Biodiversity, remain the gold standard, and why above-ground ‘green’ solutions such as swales, basins, wetlands and ponds are increasingly in demand. These approaches not only manage surface water but also enhance biodiversity and amenity value.

He also explores the updated National Standards for SuDS, which place greater emphasis on water re-use, biodiversity integration and quality-led design. With Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 expected to be enacted soon, early engagement with flood risk engineers will be critical to shaping viable and future-ready development strategies.
