Our team supported the planning of three indoor padel courts at Hart Leisure Centre in Fleet, helping to expand the leisure centre’s sports offering and provide a dedicated facility for one of the UK’s fastest growing sports.
The proposed courts sit to the north of the leisure centre’s western sports hall and are housed beneath a domed canopy structure. A hardstanding area between the new courts and the leisure centre provides space for spectators and players waiting to use the facility, helping the courts feel connected to the main building.
Hart Leisure Centre itself is a modern facility built in 2016, with sports pitches located to the rear and parking to the east. Edenbrook Country Park sits to the south and west, separated from the leisure centre by established trees and landscaping. Residential properties lie to the north beyond a landscaped buffer. The surrounding setting meant the design needed to be carefully positioned to work comfortably within the existing site.
We provided engineering support to help bring the scheme forward, working alongside the wider design team to ensure the proposed courts could be delivered within the existing leisure centre environment.
Our geomatics team carried out a detailed topographical survey of the site to accurately establish existing ground levels and surrounding features. This information formed the basis for the design work and ensured the new facility could be positioned appropriately within the available space.
We also developed the drainage strategy for the site, reviewing the existing drainage infrastructure and identifying how surface water from the new structure and surrounding hardstanding could be effectively managed. The aim was to ensure the development would not increase flood risk and would integrate with the existing drainage network serving the leisure centre.
The new courts have received planning approval and will introduce an indoor padel facility at Hart Leisure Centre, further expanding the range of activities available on site. The development makes use of an underused area of the leisure centre grounds while respecting the character of the surrounding setting alongside Edenbrook Country Park.
