MEC were commissioned by Nurton Developments Limited to support with their planning application by carrying out a Minerals Assessment for a proposed residential development on land south of School Road, Hockley Heath, Solihull. The development is set to consist of up to 99 dwellings, formation of access, infrastructure and open space.
The Geo-Environmental team carried out a Minerals Assessment as the site is located in a Mineral Safeguarding associated with sand and gravel reserves. A Minerals Assessment was needed to demonstrate that the development could be carried out without causing sterilisation of the mineral resource. The team had to use both the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Local Plan and Warwickshire Minerals Local Plan to demonstrate how the mineral resource would not be suitable for extraction without causing significant environmental impacts on the existing sensitive receptors.
There were no significant challenges other than ensuring the requirements were met for both councils.
