M-EC is a privately-owned, multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy, operating nationally. We serve both private and public sector clients including residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education and healthcare.

We are seeking an Assistant Acoustics Consultant to join our expanding team based from our Leicestershire office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and passionate individual to help develop and grow our Acoustics team, working for a number of significant clients on residential and commercial projects.

Our Acoustics team offers a range of services to cover all aspects of the discipline including residential noise assessments, industrial impact assessments, agricultural animal assessments, construction monitoring and prediction, building acoustics design, noise and vibration monitoring and much more.

The successful candidate will be trained in the assessment of noise and acoustics, with a focus on exciting changes to the way in which we undertake our assessments based on regulation changes. The successful candidate will support the team with undertaking sound level measurements for environmental and building acoustics assessments; undertake acoustic modelling to determine the impact of road traffic noise or industrial sound, and produce concise reports and assessments. 

In a growing specialist team, you will hit the ground running and be a key player involved in the daily delivery of projects, including supporting clients and liaising with local councils. You will have the opportunity to learn a range of specialist and professional skills within a consultancy setting, support the junior members of the team, and also focus on your own continuous professional development.

The position is based in Hugglescote, near Leicester. There is flexibility with some hybrid working; around site, team and office commitments. Due to the need for travel to sites across the UK it is essential that you have a full UK driving license and access to a car, a company van may be provided for work purposes.

Requirements

Key role responsibilities:

  • Plan and complete site visits to make acoustic measurements and observations;
  • Acoustic modelling and data processing;
  • Support the production of technical reports for clients which include legislative and technical requirements;
  • To contribute to the team's growth and help identify opportunities to develop in the market and achieve business plan objectives;
  • Continued professional development in accordance with the Institute of Acoustics;
  • To ensure full adherence of health, safety and environmental legislation, policy and best practice, ensuring people and the environment are protected; and
  • Co-ordination with other disciplines within the company, working collaboratively with all staff to deliver excellence.


Key skills, experience and attributes required:

  • BSc/MSc degree in Acoustics, Acoustical Engineering, Music Technology; Degree classification of 2:1 or above is preferred;
  • And/or IOA accredited Diploma - with demonstrable post qualification experience and knowledge gained through practical experience in an acoustic consultancy environment;
  • Associate membership with the IOA;
  • Working knowledge of technical guidance, legislation and codes of practice appropriate to acoustics, including but not limited to BS4142, BS8233, ProPG and the acoustically relevant Building Regulations;
  • Experience of undertaking site noise surveys following best practice and relevant guidance;
  • Strong ICT skills including competence in specialist computer modelling software used to support noise and vibration assessments;
  • Good Microsoft Office skills are essential;
  • Full UK Driving License;
  • Some willingness to travel and occasionally work outside of normal office hours;
  • Strong numeracy skills;
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally; and
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude, pro-active approach and desire to develop a career in Acoustics.
