M-EC provides multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy services for both private and public sector projects including residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education and healthcare. 

We operate on a national basis with offices in Brighton and Leicester. We are growing our existing team based at our headquarters in Leicestershire but also looking to add to our Brighton office, therefore we have the same vacancy at both locations. We are flexible with regards to hybrid working.

We are seeking a Flood Risk Engineer to join us, providing experienced input on all flood risk and drainage related matters. We are offering a permanent position, but will also consider applications for part-time working.

The main focus of the Flood Risk team is to undertake flood risk assessments, flood modelling and the preparation of drainage strategies supported by our in-house infrastructure design team. A key element to the role will be undertaking foul and surface water drainage strategies in conjunction with the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments. A good understanding of SuDS is also critical for this role, as well as an understanding of the design process, from inception to construction of drainage and flood alleviation schemes.


Our Flood Risk team also specialises in providing advice to both public and private sectors clients on planning and design issues relating to Flood Risk, as well as the outline/detailed design of flood protection, SuDS and sewerage systems on residential, retail, industrial, commercial developments and public schemes throughout the UK.

Requirements

Key role responsibilities:

  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments in Flood Zone 1, 2 and 3;
  • Preparation of foul and surface water drainage strategies, which incorporate SuDS techniques - suitable for outline/detailed planning and s104 submission;
  • Conduct on-site investigations, such as walkovers and infiltration testing;
  • Production and checking of quality, evidence led technical reports - such as flood risk reports, development of drainage strategies, river/flood modelling;
  • Project management;
  • Client liaison, fee proposals and invoicing;
  • Working collaboratively with engineers, technicians and other disciplines;
  • Business development with existing clients and creating new contacts/opportunities; 
  • Maintain high design standards and deliver solutions to projects; and
  • To ensure full adherence of health, safety and environmental legislation, policy and best practice, ensuring people and the environment are protected.


Key skills, experience and attributes required:

  • A minimum qualification of a degree, or relevant equivalent qualification;
  • Demonstrable relevant experience;
  • Professional member, or working towards, of The Institution of Civil Engineers, CIWEM or similar;
  • Detailed knowledge of current legislation, drainage design standards and good practice;
  • Sound knowledge of Microdrainage and Causeway software packages - a working knowledge of flood modelling software such as XP Storm, Hec-Ras, Tuflow or Floodmodeller would also be desirable;
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD software;
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent written skills, particularly report writing and client liaison; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to present information in detail to senior management team and staff.
