M-EC is a privately-owned, multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy, operating nationally. We serve both private and public sector clients including residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education and healthcare.


We are seeking a Geo-Environmental/Geotechnical Engineer to join the team. The position is based in Hugglescote, near Leicester, and we are flexible with regards to regular home/office working. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and passionate individual to join a successful and growing Geo-Environmental team, and to share your expertise. The main focus of the role will be around the delivery of Phase I Desk Studies, Phase II Ground Investigations, geotechnical design, remediation strategies, the production of technical reports, and site support through planning and development. You will be accountable for the high quality of your own work, to time and budget, and that of any direct reports/team members where appropriate.

We have an established Ground Investigation team, led by an experienced Associate Director who is passionate about the training, development and the mentoring of engineers, and who will support you in this role.

Key role responsibilities:

  • On-site investigation work, analysis and production of technical reports;
  • Co-ordination with other disciplines, client liaison, fee proposals and invoicing;
  • Working collaboratively with engineers and other technicians to deliver quality evidence led reports;
  • The mentoring and supervision of Geo-Environmental apprentices, technicians and graduates.

Key skills, experience and attributes required:

  • A minimum qualification of a degree in Civil engineering, Ground engineering or other relevant Geotechnical/Environmental qualification;
  • Up to date CPD record with chartered status, or soon to progress to chartered status;
  • Robust knowledge of soil and rock geotechnical properties;
  • Experience in the analysis and interpretation of geo-environmental and geotechnical data;
  • On-site experience of ground investigation techniques, exploratory hole logging/sampling and laboratory testing methodologies;
  • Proficient in the use of various computer software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access) and Holebase (or similar);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • High level of competence in factual and interpretative report writing;
  • Ability to work within a team and also under own initiative; 
  • Excellent organisational skills and able to prioritise workload; and
  • Someone who will engage in our positive health and safety culture, notifying the company of any potentials risk to your, or your colleagues, health, safety, and wellbeing whilst at work. Cooperate with the company by following processes and training provided on health and safety.
