I am a Graduate Transport Planner in the Transport Team at MEC. My responsibilities include creating Transport Statements and Assessments, Travel Plans, Monitoring Reports, and Construction Management Plans. Each project challenges me in unique ways, ensuring that no two days are the same.
I enjoy the diversity of my work, from creating access designs and considering parking standards to forecasting future traffic flows and evaluating junction capacity for both minor and major residential and commercial developments.
My role enables me to investigate sites, create detailed case studies, and develop solutions for any transport issues that arise. Our goal is to ensure that the site's highway design prioritises public safety while also assessing and promoting sustainable travel options to maximise the development's potential in terms of transport.
I enjoy working for MEC because I have gained expertise in transport while understanding all pre-planning and detailed design stages of construction.
Being surrounded by a diverse group of people who collaborate to meet and exceed client objectives is truly rewarding. Inclusion is paramount to the business, with frequent social events outside the office that encourage interaction with colleagues you might not usually engage with daily.
I appreciate the company’s flexibility and emphasis on work-life balance, as well as the opportunities to gain experience in new areas for personal development.
I strongly encourage anyone to pursue a career in engineering as it can be very fulfilling. Having diverse perspectives in discussions and design processes within the built environment is crucial.
It's important we challenge the stereotypical image of engineering, both in the workforce and the idea of roles available to encourage more diversity in this ever-evolving profession.
Graduate roles and apprenticeship schemes are great to begin learning on the job and building up your accomplishments in the field.
