Geo-Environmental - Ground Investigation Services

M-EC provide a wide range of ground investigation service, from basic desk-based site appraisals (Phase I) to full and extensive intrusive investigations (Phase II) to support planning applications, detailed engineering design and general site appraisal.

We work across a wide range of sectors, including residential, commercial, industrial, health and education
and have experience in a wide range of ground investigation techniques, including trial pitting, dynamic sampling, cable percussion boring and rotary drilling and have our own site services and drilling team.

Our teams work in full accordance with the following industry legislation;

  • CLR 11 – Model Procedures for the Management of Contamination
  • BS10175 – Code of Practice for the Investigation of Potentially Contaminated Sites
  • BS 5930 – Code of practice for ground investigations
  • CIRIA C665 – Assessing risks posed by hazardous ground gases to buildings
  • BRE 365 – Soakaway design

Ground investigations are typically allied to soil sampling, in situ testing and groundwater/ground gas monitoring to generate the data required to establish cost-effective development solutions and satisfy the requirements of regulators.

The ground investigation team works in close harmony with other M-EC team disciplines. We provide soil infiltration rate information for use by the flood risk and drainage team and soil strength and consolidation data for use by the structures team to design foundations.
