Background and industry experience
Nathan joined MEC in January 2021 – a great start in the middle of Covid with a 2-week-old and starting a counselling course all in the same month! He’s been in this industry for around 14 years, where he started with undertaking noise and light surveys, before moving into lighting within a multi-disciplinary environmental team. Nathan studied Environmental Science at Bangor University.
By day, he focuses on assisting clients across the country by understanding lighting assessments and producing lighting designs for roads, car parks, warehouses, and sports pitches. Additionally, he engages in daylighting and lighting assessments for planning applications, discharge conditions, and appeal support. Come nightfall, Nathan dedicates his time to measuring light levels in dark fields and alongside roads.
Nathan has worked in pretty much every project sector that requires external lighting or daylight. His favourite sector has to be sports/leisure, such as padel courts or driving ranges, as he participates in these spaces myself.
Are there any projects you have worked on in your career that you are proud of and would like to note?
“My proudest project is the Lighting Environmental Statement Chapter for Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium! I explain my job to my two boys as “Daddy helps build houses as there are lots of children in the UK that currently don’t have houses of their own” which they now point out to me every time we pass new build developments in the car.”
Outside of work commitments, Nathan is actively pursuing training to become a counsellor. In this capacity, he provides valuable support to individuals on their mental health journeys. Beyond his professional endeavours, Nathan enjoys golf, padel, running, CrossFit, eating popcorn, and cherishing moments with his two young children.
