Overview
Our Geomatics team is providing ongoing Solar Construction Monitoring for a solar farm project in Tamworth, working on behalf of Belgian-based Sitemark NV.
The team were instructed initially to carry out an initial aerial topographical survey, on the 54-hectare farm, which has gained planning for a renewable energy solar farm. Rather than carrying out just this single survey of the site, our involvement has continued throughout construction, with our CAA-certified pilot returning every two weeks to capture an up-to-date record of progress across the development.
Overview of MEC Services
Following an initial Aerial Topographical Survey our Geomatics team we’re retained to undertake regular UAV surveys of the site, using photogrammetry to provide a detailed and consistent record of the solar farm as construction progresses.
The site is flown once every two weeks, allowing the project team to monitor progress and identify any infrastructure that may have been installed incorrectly. Capturing this information regularly means potential issues can be identified and corrected much earlier in the construction programme, rather than being discovered towards project completion.
Due to the scale of the site and Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) restrictions, three separate flights are required during each visit to capture the full area needed for the photogrammetry. SCM Tamworth solar gs
Outcome
Monitoring a project of this scale requires a consistent approach to data capture throughout construction. By returning to the site every two weeks, our Geomatics team is assisting the client in building a clear timeline of the solar farm as it takes shape, while providing information that can be used to identify potential installation issues at an early stage.
The project remains ongoing, with our team continuing to monitor progress as construction develops.
