MEC Strengthens Civil Engineering Team Following Three Years of Growth

MEC has been shortlisted for Consultancy Team of the Year at the Insider West Midlands Property Awards 2026.

The civil engineering discipline at specialist technical consultancy, MEC Consulting Group is celebrating three years of strong organic growth that has seen an average annual compound of growth of 117% as well as several staff successes including four promotions, three new recruits, and associate director, Nathan Bill being highlighted as a regional award finalist.

“The progress within our Civils team has been very deliberate,” explains MEC’s Managing Director, Alex Bennett. “Over the past three years, we have invested in the people, leadership and ways of working needed to build a stronger, more connected discipline across the Midlands. With the team achieving a 102% productivity rate and exceeding its new work target in the last financial year, hitting 191%, this approach is certainly proving the right move,” adds Alex.

Notable staff successes in the past 12 months include:

  • Five promotions have been awarded. Nathan Bill was appointed as Associate Director for the discipline, becoming the youngest member of staff to reach this level. Jed Nicholson and Nathan Broomfield have become Senior Civil Engineers, Michael Webb becomes a Civil Engineer and Jack Wills becomes an Assistant Civil Engineer.
  • Three new recruits join the Birmingham and Nottingham offices including Civil Engineer, Richard Abbott; Graduate Civil Engineer, Orla Garvey and Apprentice, Zayd Ul-Hassan, who has started his degree at Nottingham Trent University
  • Apprentice, Ryan Green completed his BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering and has started a Beng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree at Wolverhampton University
  • Nathan Bill is a finalist for Rising Star of the Year in the upcoming 2026 ProCon Leicestershire Awards

Associate Director, Nathan Bill comments: “These achievements reflect the team’s proactive attitude and commitment, and I’m thrilled to see progress at every level, proving our mentoring approach is genuinely supporting personal development.

“Although operating from three offices in Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham, we act as one connected team and have worked hard to establish a strong spirit, sharing knowledge and advice, and I’m confident this cohesiveness has been beneficial to clients too. We now truly position ourselves as an extension of a client’s internal team, emphasising consistency, communication, technical excellence and ownership of the wider project outcome, not only our design package.

“The Midlands market for residential, commercial, and public sector development is very active and therefore highly competitive but I’m confident our investment in people is what’s helping us stand out.

“On a personal level, I’m also really pleased to be a ProCon Rising Star finalist. It’s great to have the recognition from my peers and wider industry, and gives me more motivation to keep learning and leading the team to greater success,” adds Nathan.

MEC’s Civils team’s growth has been underpinned by new project wins across the Midlands, including detailed design work for residential developments comprising in excess of 750 new homes in Mansfield, Newark, Somerby, Tutbury and Tamworth, as well as structural design to support the regeneration of six factory buildings into Canopy, Leicester’s award-winning creative hub and offices.

Alex concludes: “Technical capability will always be fundamental, but clients also need a team that communicates well, understands the wider commercial picture and takes ownership of helping a project move forward. Nathan and the team have worked hard to establish that approach, and it is encouraging to see their development reflected in these promotions, apprenticeship milestones and continued project wins.”
