Planning Approval for Beenham Development

MEC has delivered a low-impact lighting scheme for Grundon Waste Management’s approved 3-acre B2/B8 open storage yard in the North Wessex Downs AONB.

Planning permission was recently granted for Grundon Waste Management’s 3-acre B2/B8 open storage yard, which will include a new ancillary workshop and an offsite area for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) planting, at Beenham Commercial Area in the North Wessex Downs AONB.

Working closely with the project team, our lighting specialists assessed potential impacts on the surrounding environment and light-sensitive species, including bats, in line with British Standards, ILP guidance, and AONB lighting requirements.

Using detailed 3D modelling, we developed a low-impact lighting design featuring downward-facing, warm-colour LEDs, back shields, and zero-degree tilt to control light spill. Lighting will operate on restricted hours with sensors to ensure it’s only on when needed. The scheme achieves lux levels along ecological boundaries well below 1 lux and 0% sky glow, meeting the highest environmental standards while maintaining site safety and usability.

The site is currently being marketed by Haslams Chartered Surveyors, get in touch with their team for more details.
