Our flood risk team has supported a successful planning application for a series of padel tennis courts at Bromley Sports Club in Bromley, London.
Ryan Chafer, our flood risk engineer prepared a surface water drainage strategy that will be adopted when construction starts on two out of the three padel courts this week.
“Our client, Bromley Sports Club, obtained planning permission for the formation and construction of three padel tennis courts subject to a suitable surface water drainage strategy,” explains Ryan. “The padel courts will be constructed directly onto natural ground using porous synthetic grass over a porous asphalt. Underneath this, we have specified a deep consolidated single size stone with a regulating layer to act as a stable, free-draining base. This will allow for a slow dissipation of rainfall, mimicking the natural hydrological process of water falling onto the ground and finding natural flow paths for dispersion,” concludes Ryan.
Padel tennis is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports and is played on courts about a third the size of traditional tennis courts.
