MEC is a privately owned, multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy operating nationally. We provide specialist services to private and public sector clients across residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education, and healthcare sectors.
Due to our continued growth, we are looking for an Assistant Land Surveyor / Land Surveyor to join our Geomatics team.
This opportunity is open to candidates at different stages of their surveying career, from those looking to develop their experience within the industry through to experienced Land Surveyors capable of independently delivering survey work.
For those earlier in their career, the role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn on the job and develop professionally, helping to deliver a first-class geospatial service to our clients. For more experienced candidates, there will be greater responsibility for project delivery, quality assurance, client liaison and supporting junior members of the team.
The position is based in Hugglescote, in Leicestershire, so you must live within daily commuting distance of the office, and due to the need for travel to sites across the UK it is essential that you have a full UK driving licence.
Responsibilities will vary depending on experience and the level at which the successful candidate joins the team.
Undertaking topographical land surveys, measured building surveys and engineering surveys in accordance with company systems/standards, within time and on budget;
Liaison with other members of the Geomatics team to enable work to be delivered to time, budget and quality;
Completing office processing activities in line with active survey projects, using high-end survey software;
Assist in the production of survey drawings and reports; and
Assist in the production of Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
For candidates joining at Surveyor level, responsibilities will also include:
Conduct Land Surveys in line with client specifications and industry standards.
Carry out site data capture, processing, and production of survey drawings, reports, and data files.
Ensure quality assurance and rigorous checking procedures on all deliverables.
Liaise with clients on-site regarding H&S procedures and project specifications.
Proactively report on project progress and assist with project management.
Support the training and mentoring of junior team members.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across multi-disciplinary teams.
Maintain and manage survey equipment, vehicles, and consumables.
Ensure compliance with ICES, TSA, and other relevant professional standards.
Maintain valid CSCS card and uphold best practices in site/construction safety.
We are open to candidates at Assistant Surveyor or Surveyor level and will consider applications based on relevant qualifications, experience and technical capability.
For Assistant Surveyor candidates:
A minimum of GCSE grade A-C in Mathematics, English and Science;
A degree or equivalent qualification in a Geospatial related subject would be advantageous;
Student member of The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, or willing to work towards this with support;
Hold a valid CSCS card, support to obtain one will be provided if not;
Self-motivated and achievement orientated with a positive attitude, pro-active approach and desire to develop a career learning on the job in the field of geospatial surveying – a practical and outdoor based role;
Strong personal management and timekeeping skills, as well as a passion for being outdoors;
Initiative to think on your feet, resolving unforeseen issues and forming working solutions;
A keen eye for detail and quality;
Basic understanding of the use of AutoCAD would be advantageous;
Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office;
Excellent time keeping;
Excellent communication skills;
You will need to hold a full UK driving licence as the role will involve use of company vehicles and travel to some remote site locations; and
A good level of fitness and flexibility is required and you must be prepared to spend time on site working away from the office, to include occasional unsocial working hours.
For Surveyor-level candidates:
As listed above, including;
Proven experience in Land Surveys
Proficient in using relevant equipment and software include Total Stations, GNSS survey-grade equipment, LSS, and AutoCAD.
Willingness to travel across the UK with occasional overnight stays.
Full, clean UK driving licence (company van provided for work purposes).
Desirable:
Knowledge of Measured Building Surveys, 3D Laser Scanning, REVIT, or Underground Utility Mapping.
